Domains on X Weekly – Issue 2

Another exciting week of domain name posts on X (Twitter). Here’s my wrap on some of the most interesting posts I came across. I’m early on this one but there is just so much happening in the domain name market at the moment that I decided to release Issue 2.

A $2m Bitcoin sale on Spaceship sets a new record for Sellerhub

Spaceship continues to make waves in the domain marketplace. I only recently watched a DomainSherpa episode with Andrew Rosener pushing Escrow to take Bitcoin payments. It seems this announcement might speed things up a bit on that front.

A 3 word .com sale for $28,888

I love seeing sales like this. According to the post by CindiKit (cool handle) the hold time was 4 years. NameBio shows there are two reported sales for acrosstheaisle.com, with the last being in 2016 for just $1400! When you open your domain ideas to 3 words the possibilities are endless but you probably want to make sure it’s a .com.

.app Domain holders cheering

Alternate extensions seem to sell in packs. This week it’s the .app domain holders turn to shine. I don’t own any .app domains but I always like to see meaningful sales in alternate extensions. NameBio does a great job of reporting sales and even though there are many more sales that go unreported, it’s a good measure of the domain market on a daily basis.

Hy-phen .com domain name holders will like this

Google says go traditional TLD even if it means using a hyphen in the domain name. Not so sure I agree with this one in terms of going with a hyphen but I get the point and that’s why the majority of my names are .com or .org – no hyphens. I do see quite a few small business owners using hyphenated domains but I am also seeing many more alternate extensions being used. My take is, there is definitely a place for great names in any extension. Just choose carefully and balance the domain portfolio accordingly is my moto.

Hot take from Brady at Unstoppable Domains “It’s a race to the bottom and domainers are the beneficiaries”

Competition is heating up among the top registrars. This can only be a good thing for the domain name market.

Word of the week is Skibidi

Skibidi is quite the mouthful and almost certainly doesn’t pass the radio test but it’s clearly big in popular culture. One for the younger generation I think.

Domain flip of the week – Bnny.com

Nameably (a top seller on Atom), sharing his $800 buy that sold 1 year later for $12,750 with Bnny.com. If you want to see an example of quality over quantity then Nameably is a great example and worth a follow.
